This is the least important problem with the show.
I feel like it’s more the fact of if it can’t hold your attention and leaves you feeling underwhelmed you’re more likely to find these little things, there were already many issues before this point in the show so at that point people are looking for it.
The immersion was non existent because it felt like we were on a stage at a theater. They completely failed at making you feel like you are in the world. Instead you feel like you’re watching a high budget theater show on a stage with obvious gimmicks required for that platform
It’s already been pointed out on this sub but my personal favorite is when the Asian elf gets peppered with arrows out of no where and then the arrows stop just long enough for her to shoot one last shot into…some bomb the orcs brought??
I can forgive them these cringe errors (and horrendous combat choreography in general) if the story, characters, dialogue were good. Unfortunately, they were not…. I mean GoT season1, HBO Rome season 1, basically skipped big battles and still were amazing.
Most.
Expensive.
Show.
Of all time.
Helm’s Deep took like a month to film at night during the rain (and fake rain). Charlotte Brandstrom said she was happy with the Battle for Eregion after two takes. This is a directorial choice.
Rings of Power is probably the worst offender when it comes to the stupid spinny moves trope since the 1980s.
It’s like they asked an 8 year old to do the choreography.
I’m actually excited to see how bad the next season can get.
Trebuchets, turning and lobbing rocks at mountain tops which are higher and farther away than the walls they had been aimed at and taking off said mountain tops to dam the river. There were maybe two mobile weapons in WWII that were capable of taking off mountain tops like that. A battery of tanks wasn’t going to do that. And the elves just stood there aghast (instead of dying laughing) instead of, you know, raining arrows down on the trebuchets. Or something.
You’d be surprised how often those “reacts to nothing” happen in media. They are usually not as blatant as this but they are there. Pirates of the Caribbean for instance has a redcoat slashing at thin air in the first movie’s big battle
All the sets look like sets, all characters look like people in costumes, nothing felt authentic to me at all, literally unwatchable for me.
You should show the clip
Of when Galadriel escaped prison. One
Moment the door was locked and opens one way. The next moment it’s open and the 5 guards are easily handled.
And people want to tell me this is an objectively good show and I shouldn’t compare it to the movies. I have never compared it to the movies. Objectively rings of power is just not good. Ill probably get downvoted but whatever.
Just add them to the endless list.
These are the least of rings of power problems
The writing and showrunners are the main issue
No amount of budget or VFX can save a show from bad writing and bad directing.
I can’t believe they actually played the scene at this speed, too, all slowed down frame by frame like this, crazy. Would’ve looked a lot better sped up.
My biggest gripe is that the rings look like giant candy ring pops. Like wtf is that about!
None of these would be anything other than funny bloopers if the show was good. They matter so little compared to writing and acting.
No one gives a shit about the Stormtrooper who hits his head on the door.
Show is 🗑️
Idk what they’re talking about. Spinning is a good trick.
It’s all about attitude tbh. You’d be surprised how many mistakes you can find in games and movies when you’re actively looking for something to critique.
When you go into a show or game with the expectation it’s going to be bad, everything becomes suspect. Even things you’d have ignored before.
I hated ROP’s fight and battle choreography. But to be fair. In the background of Braveheart’s battles, you’d see guys goofing around play sword fighting.
This is honestly the issue in most action sequences we see these days. Just look at the star wars trilogy recently. The fighting and combat was atrocious and just lazy.
Like they thought they could just get away with some editing and it’d be fine. It makes such a world of a difference.
The third one was supposed to be a bad ass move of the elf shooting the one that falls back while fighting the other and they missed the edit. Real bummer on all of it honestly.
This happens in lotr if you slow it down.
Mistakes with stunt men. I usually give a pass here and there if the story is good. The problem is the story was bad.
Especially with that orc that fell over getting hit by nothing. I’m sure the guy that they hired was told that they would CGI in someone and gave him an action to do and then for some god-forsaken reason decided to just use that shot. More than likely it was the only shot they had and just had to go with it.
Since these are so expensive to make reshoots with little mistakes like this are not usually prioritized.
Not a total excuse but these wouldn’t be the reason I would say the show was bad at all. Plenty of other more solid reasons why the show is bad.
I feel like it’s more, bad writing, bad casting, bad acting, bad costumes, pretty much just bad across the board
For everyone that was pointing put the writing, editing, story, acting, scenery, etc before, trying to give well thought out reasons why this is a below standard show, and all of us back then at the start that got vilified for it, at least others aren’t getting crapped on for pointing out the obvious now. Just wish week 2 had reasonable people in the comments like there is now.
Try watching it at full speed instead of slow-mo hope this helps 👍
if you care about any of this you are an enormous loser
Wait til you see star wars and marvel films!
It’s bad but I didn’t notice this stuff. This isn’t why the show sucks, many other reason why, I don’t think this is it
You are right, the battle scenes are my biggest critic of the show. I find myself to actually enjoy it. I mean, it’s faaaaar from perfect. It s quite mid, but there are some good things here and there. But the fighting… Omfg, i can’t. It’s way too overplayed. It’s unbelievable, i don’t like them. Too many pirouettes and FUCK stop using arrows as a knife dammit!! Use a fking dagger!!!
True but battlefields are hard to film. It would be stranger if they did that right but all other aspects wrong.
Lol I love the show, but these are funny. That first one is kinda realistic. You’re not always going to hit your target.
“If you slow mass battle scenes down considerably and brighten + zoom in on background extras, you’ll see that not every hit connects properly, something pretty normal in mass fight scenes. This is definitely a valid reason why the series is bad, and not just a karma farming whinge”
That one orc was supposed to be getting shot with arrows but doesn’t look they put the arrows in post
But the director is so Proud of this shot. Wasn’t this an single long take and that was a technical triumph, even though it sucked in depicting war (which was its true purpose)
Nothing is worse than backward stabbing as an enemy rushed up from behind.
Other than the VFX, it really just does feel amateurish.
Almost everything except for “orc reacts to nothing” is believable. “Orc misses target” sometimes you jab at an enemy and you miss because they’re falling. And the force one? It’s called dodging
Can someone remind me where this music is from please? It’s going to bother me now.
Well, this is the least of the problems in RoP.
Combat is quite ridicilous in LoTR as well.
That orc fighting nothing but air is hilarious and I cannot stop laughing.
This is not why it sucked
This sort of analysis, while appreciated, is unnecessary because you need look no further than the script.
I didn’t notice any of this watching it and can guarantee this is not why people aren’t watching it
