I wonder how many people know you can actually buy movies on Steam, I didn’t discover this until recently.
I think cause they stopped supporting that
Constantly forget, it’s real limited.
If i buy a movie and said movie gets removed from steam, do i get to keep the movie in my library or not?
There’s a LOT less than there used to be. They really scaled them down since they had to be game related. (Although there’s still a few that are questionable under that rule)
I found out about it when I saw the K-on movie on steamdb a while ago
I immediately wanted to buy it just for the hell of it but it was no available anymore at all (or just in my country idk)
same with other Anime and stuff I looked up 🙁
It’s too bad this hasn’t really taken off and they aren’t part of the Movies Anywhere program. Movies would have made the Steam Deck an even better all around device.
They also have anime, but USA exclusive (like always)
Can’t beat the prices compared to what HDBits gives.
I remember buying 2 episodes of the Mario cartoon, just to have Mario in my steam library.
The inability to download films really turned me off from using the service.
I remember this. They once sold a porno.
Damn jhon wick is more expensive than gta 5 lol
You can buy movies?
Thanks for sharing! I was only aware of Kung Fury and other free movies.
I remember when I went to check if the Saw video game was on Steam. I got excited thinking that it was. It was the movie, which I already had on DVD and bluray.
I much prefer the other video content they got.
Oats Studio with their short videos was incredibly amazing. I believe if you paid for a DLC for Oats Studios, you got to keep higher definition of the videos as well as some 3D-printable assets.
They got one called Kung Fury that’s up for free, definitely worth the watch, it’s a fever dream
I would love to rent/buy movies that came out in 3D and view them in VR. I never saw Cameron’s Avatar in theaters.
Valve: I’m somewhat of a steaming service myself
I bought the entire Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex series, sadly the player sucks ass, hope they improve it
There was like 10 old movies priced insanely high.
I’ve had the indie game movie for nearly a decade at this point but figured it was like the only movie on steam
You can buy a lot of junk on steam.
Don’t do it, the player is awful and you can’t download the movies. I paid for RWBY and Red vs Blue, and I wish I had paid for them on a different service.
You can also buy software to
Blockbuster video
There’s not a lot of movies to choose from, though.
I remember my first movie in 2012, Indie Game: The Movie, which was an absolutely masterpiece movie about Meat Boy, Fez and Braid and also a documentary about main developers and their dreams.
Were pretty common to find in the search function before steam got flooded with tons of indies, good and bad.
I filtered them out when they started carrying them on the store and I keep forgetting they ever existed on there.
W h a t how did i not know this
If it was 4K MKVs…I’d bite…
There was a period of time where I was getting anime movies popping up in my Steam suggestions a long time ago, that’s how I learned about it. Steam also has software and other utilities, not just games. But I don’t really like buying these other things from them.
they use o have music too, they don’t have movies or music anymore though, unless they still do in whatever region you’re in
The first time I watch John Wick was actually on Steam.
Yea i found out bout that when i saw there is a “Papers, Please” short movie thingy.
Interesting. Alternately, why the fuck would I want that.
Interesting. I would have probably used this feature if I actually knew it existed.
Steam is reliable for games so I would expect it to be reliable for movies too.
Although I guess the one downside is you’d have to have a way of getting it to your home entertainment system if you had one.
wait…people buy movies ?
You can WHAT?

Having trouble comprehending why anyone would want to buy movies? To be fair I did this back in the VHS days and into DVD days, now have a collection of movies I have never watched again? Very few movies have a watched twice. Hmm, maybe Maybe Monty Python satire I can watch again, but not to own them?
Here’s a [list of 338 movies](https://steamdb.info/search/?a=app_keynames&keyname=23&operator=3&keyvalue=Lionsgate) published by Lionsgate. The most recent one (The Cabin in the Woods) was added just 18 days ago.
Unfortunately I can’t see any of these in store because “This item is currently unavailable in your region”
Seems to be mostly Lionsgate and Devolver Digital Films but [here are more](https://steamdb.info/search/?a=app_keynames&type=13&keyname=23&operator=3&keyvalue=).
It has to come back. Imagine watching movies like no way home on steam. Sounds really cool since theaters are risky.
I was wondering how I didn’t know about it. Turns out it’s not available everywhere. Shame.
They should invest more on movie services, maybe valve could bring something different to the table and expand steam from games to entertainment in general.
I think I would buy if they had a large selection and their content when on sale like the games. I think this would be pretty cool to own and support your favorites.
I bought Indie Game – The Movie on there when it first came out eons ago, watched it once, forgot it existed, didn’t ever hear or realize there were other movies available. Whoops!
I bought “Indie Game: The Movie”. The movie is great, but the Steam part of it sucks.
