  1. From the news article today about Russian nukes in space.

After the series of test as shown here. Every nation basically forbid nukes in space as indiscriminate attacks on every nation.

This was just 250 miles in the air with a fairly weak nuke. Yet it caused DAMAGE taking down 6+ satellites over months.

Nukes today launched at a higher atmo, with intention to harm can target the busy orbits causing until devastation on the worldwide infrastructure. Apparently, if done right, a single nuke with the intention to harm satellites aimed at causing the most damage can take down a third of all satellites in orbit over a year. Thats a new apocalypse scebario

  2. Just in case anybody is interested, this test is also one of the things that spurred the conspiracy theory that we are all living in a dome. This test was a part of operation fishbowl where the USA basically blasted nukes in the sky just to test them. What some say really was happening was that we discovered around this same time that we actually live under some type of dome and what the USA was really trying to do was to penetrate the dome. After multiple attempts, they then realized they were unsuccessful.

  3. I know I’m not alone in having watched a movie, usually sci-fi could be horror and at first says, “It’s a movie,  no one is that stupid.” And, “That could never happen ha ha.”

Then realizes that, that is simply not true.

  4. Wow. I just read a book about a scenario in which the US and Europe are EMPed by nukes in the atmosphere. It’s all based on how the scenario would likely play out and it’s pretty scary. Complete societal breakdown in a few weeks. No food, no medical supplies, very few vehicles (only pre-computer ones work). People killing each other for food scraps, etc.
The book is “One Second After” By William R. Forester. It’s really good.

  5. Shit like this reiterates the fact that a ww3 would probably end humanity or atleast ruin the world for a large portion of humanity. We could so easily destroy each other’s infrastructure even without nuking each others land. Imagine the weapons the USA has kept secret

  6. The US used EMP weapons during the Iraq war too. EMP weapons already exist. The real existential threat are intercontinetal EMP weapons. Russia, China and the US have them and current civilian infrastrucfure is not protected in any way. Every traffic light, home computer and internet node is unprotected. Using those could mean whole hospitals being rendered useless because almost all equipments with micro controllers need to be replaced costing trillions.

  7. For those who don’t grasp the significance; a successful EMP attack (or anything that shuts down the grid,) for good, would likely lead to about 90% of the United States dead within a year. (As per the EMP Commission- citations below)

**If** it’s confirmed there is a nuclear weapon in space, I’d be taking some very specific actions, even if the chance of something happening is low.

Even with preparations, it’s a nightmare beyond imagining.

*Edit* Citations so people don’t think I’m just spouting my own estimates- apparently this is rather controversial.

I’ve got a career in Emergency Management, and I’ve corresponded with the late Dr. Pry about this matter (head of the EMP commission,) who confirmed the tests regarding cars were indeed flawed.

The exact estimates range from 50% up to 90% from various accounts. 90% dead within a year is the often parroted statistic. Two examples are below.Congressional report.

Member of the EMP Commission confirming that the fictional book ‘One Second After’ is fairly accurate in the 90% dead estimate.[[https://irp.fas.org/congress/2008\_hr/emp.pdf](https://irp.fas.org/congress/2008_hr/emp.pdf)](https://irp.fas.org/congress/2008_hr/emp.pdf](https://irp.fas.org/congress/2008_hr/emp.pdf))

Also, a Joint Hearing, Subcommittee of National Security with another mention of the statistic.[[https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CHRG-114hhrg96952/html/CHRG-114hhrg96952.htm](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CHRG-114hhrg96952/html/CHRG-114hhrg96952.htm)](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CHRG-114hhrg96952/html/CHRG-114hhrg96952.htm](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CHRG-114hhrg96952/html/CHRG-114hhrg96952.htm))
