  1. If you’re popping back in after my last few posts, hello and welcome!!

If you’re new, I am baking along with the newest season of The Great British Baking Show this year and sharing each week’s progress!

I chose the signature challenge again this week partly because I’ve had “turtle conchas” on my baking to-do list for over a year (and also I’ve made tres leches cake multiples times and not a single part of me wanted to try and stack one…)

This was a journey… The recipe I referenced had the complete wrong ratio of wet ingredients to dry ingredients, so instead of wasting a bunch of dough and topping (and having to run to the store.. again…), I decided to just try and make it work by adding ingredients until I felt the texture was correct. Thankfully it came together and baked fairly well, although in the cut photo you can see the bread texture is *way* too dense. I don’t think they’re as sweet as they should be, but they still taste good and I filled them with a light coffee pastry cream to help! I’ll definitely be trying these again in the future so I can hopefully get them right next time, and I’m very open to tips and tricks from you all!

  2. Wow! These are amazing. My child’s school has a turtle in the classroom and I plan on baking “Squirt” cookies or something for their annual holiday bazar. Now I’m thinking Squirt conchas…thanks for the inspiration!
